David C. McCourt


David McCourt is Chairman and CEO of Granahan McCourt Capital LLC – a private investment firm based in the US.  He is also Chairman and CEO of Skyware Global, an operating entity of Satellite Holdings LLC, a partnership between GMC and Edgewater Funds.  SH was formed as a vehicle to acquire and consolidate companies in the satellite industry.  He describes satellite technology as “the most underappreciated opportunity in the next phase of telecom”.

For over 25 years, David McCourt has been an innovator, entrepreneur, and business leader across the construction, communications, and media industries.  He has founded 14 companies in seven countries and is widely recognized as a transformational force in the telecommunications business.

In 1982, he created his first company, McCourt Cable Systems, which quickly became the largest privately owned designer and builder of cable system in the US.  Soon after, he founded Corporate Communications Network in Boston, the first competitive phone company in the US.  He eventually merged the company with MFS Communications, which was later sold to Worldcom for $14.3 billion.

For his next venture, Mr McCourt forged an alliance with Peter Kiewit Sons, Inc., and together they formed the London-based McCourt/Kiewit International, becoming the largest designer and builder of residential cable television and telephone networks in Europe. 

In 1993, Mr McCourt purchased controlling interest in C-TEC Corporation in Pennsylvania and subsequently split C-TEC into three publicly traded companies listed on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange: RCN Corporation; Cable Michigan, Inc; and Commonwealth Telephone Enterprises, Inc.  He was Chairman and CEO of all three companies, until sold and also served as Chairman/CEO of a fourth company, Mercom, which he also sold.   RCN, the unsold company of the group, was the nation’s first facilities-based provider of phone, cable and Internet services to the residential market.

Beginning with his station in Grenada, Mr McCourt has maintained a long-time interest in film and television production.

Currently, Mr McCourt sits on the board of: Granahan McCourt Acquisition Corp; Narrowstep Inc.; Cable Satellite Public Affairs Network (CSPAN); JP Morgan/Chase; the American Irish Historical Society; and Societe de Louvre, Paris.

Mr McCourt has been the recipient of a number of honors and awards and has been profiled in numerous publications. 

He graduated from Georgetown University.
