John Sharkey is Chairman/CEO of Kane, Saunders & Smart, headquartered in New York.
In 1986, Mr Sharkey joined MCI Communications Corporation to create and implement a Corporate Accounts Division, later expanding it into the Multi-National/Global Accounts Division. Company revenues grew from $2 billion to $31 billion over the next thirteen years, with Mr Sharkey retiring in 2000 upon the completion of the MCI and WorldCom merger.
Prior to MCI, he was with Litton Industries, the General Electric Company, and the ROLM Corporation, and participated in the start-up of a voice-messaging company in Silicon Valley.
He is a Board member of: the Glucksman House at New York University; Belfast's FLAX Trust; the American Ireland Fund; and past President of the Sky Club Board of Governors. He is a Board Member of Mutual of America Institutional Funds, and a member of the Audit Committee.
He has received many honours and awards, including the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, the HeartShare Human Services ‘Man of the Year’, the Lou Gehrig Humanitarian Award for ‘the Communication Independence for the Neurologically Impaired’, and the St Patrick’s Home Humanitarian Award.
He studied Marketing Management and Accounting at Iona College and the Management Institute of New York University, and has attended management/ leadership courses at the London Business School, Harvard's School of Negotiation, and Northwestern's Kellogg School.
