Thomas J. Moran was appointed Chairman of the Board of Mutual of America Life Insurance Company in June 2005 and has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since October 1994. During his 30 years of service, he has participated in Mutual of America's growth from a small retirement association to a mutual life insurance company with $11 billion in assets. It is among the most highly rated life insurance companies in the US, specializing in providing retirement and long-term savings plans to small/medium-sized organizations.
His past leadership positions include Chairman of the Medical Information Bureau and the Life Insurance Council of New York.
He has written about ‘The Values that Build a Strong Organization’ in the recently published book The Organization of the Future 2. He has also written on leadership styles in Leader to Leader magazine and Business Week, and has presented at the prestigious World Economic Forum.
Mr Moran is currently Chairman of Concern Worldwide (US). He serves on the Boards of Directors of: the American Cancer Society Foundation; the Greater New York Council of the Boy Scouts of America; Channel Thirteen WNET; and the National Committee on American Foreign Policy.
He is a member of: the Irish Government’s Economic Advisory Board; the Board of the Irish Chamber of Commerce in the USA; and the Ireland-US Council for Commerce & Industry. He serves as a member of the Board of Aer Lingus. He is also a member of the Columbus Club, sponsoring New York’s Columbus Day Parade, and is an Honorary Deputy Chief of the Fire Department of New York and an Honorary Commissioner of the NYPD. He is the recipient of many honours and awards including: Irish America Magazine’s Man of the Year; the Calvary Hospital Medal of Honor; the Terence Cardinal Cooke Award; the Ellis Island Medal of Honor; and an award presented by the former Irish Prime Minister, Bertie Ahern, for his humanitarian work with Concern Worldwide.
He graduated from Manhattan College with a BSc degree in Mathematics, and was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the National University of Ireland and an Honorary Doctor of Science degree from Queen’s University Belfast.
