Dr Aileen Pierce, Director UCD Quinn School is elected President Elect of the European Accounting Association (EAA).

Date: 02 Apr 2008

At the recent annual congress of the European Accounting Association (EAA), Dr. Aileen Pierce was elected President-Elect of the Association for the year 2008-09.  She will automatically become the President for a two-year term at the conclusion of the next annual congress in Tampere (Finland) in May 2009.  At that time, she will become not only the first Irish person to be EAA President in its 32-year history, but also its first ever female President. Election to this important post in accounting is a major achievement.

Aileen came though a process that started with a list of almost 80 nominations in 2007, electronic balloting by members in Spring 2008, and EAA Board ratification followed by ratification of her nomination by the General Assembly of EAA members in Rotterdam last Friday.  She received unanimous support from the Board and acceptance by the General Assembly.  Changes in the EAA governance structures meant that Aileen was the second President-Elect actually elected, instead of following an automatic succession process from Chair of the annual congress organising committee.

EAA is the second largest academic accounting organisation in the world (after the American Accounting Association) and it has members from all over the world.  The current total membership is around 1,700 people.  Further information is available on www.eaa-online.org .
