Kate Cullen BComm, MBS (UCD) has been awarded the inaugural Denis O’Connor KPMG Doctoral Scholarship in Accounting. Generously and kindly endowed by KPMG, this Scholarship celebrates the achievement and leadership of the late Denis O’Connor, former Managing Partner of KPMG in Ireland. In his memory, the Scholarship will contribute substantively to building the next generation of accounting educators and professionals in Ireland.
Kate is a BComm (H1) and MBS in Financial Services (H1) graduate of UCD. She has previously worked as an analyst with Davy Stockbrokers and, more recently, as a Management Consultant with Deloitte in Dublin. She is currently completing her CIMA exams where she has consistently been placed in the top 10 in Ireland including first place in Ireland in Financial Statement Analysis.
There was a very competitive field for the Scholarship. An enthusiastic and thoughtful scholar, Kate was selected by the assessment panel comprising Tom Begley (Chair), Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh, Niamh Brennan, Aileen Pierce and Terence O’Rourke (Managing Partner, KPMG Ireland) based on her academic excellence and potential, the quality of her research proposal, her potential contribution to the School’s research programme and her prior experience in her proposed field of study. Her research proposal is entitled The Implications of Impression Management in Narrative Disclosures for Users of Annual Reports. Based on her proposal, she will be jointly supervised by Ciarán Ó hÓgartaigh and Aileen Pierce.
