| Bill Roche is Professor of Industrial Relations and Human Resources at the School of Business, University College Dublin and Honorary Professor at the School of Management, Queen's University Belfast. He is a graduate of UCD and was awarded his doctorate by the University of Oxford, where he was Heyworth Memorial Prize Research Fellow of Nuffield College. He has held visiting professorships at the University of South Australia, Adelaide and at the University of Melbourne. He was a Jean Monnet Fellow at the European University Institute, Florence. He is a members of the editorial boards of leading journals, including The British Journal of Industrial Relations; Industrial Relations; Human Resource Management Journal and Labour and Industry. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. He was the first Dean of the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, where he was also Director of Research and Head of the doctoral programme. He has published extensively in the world's leading international peer-reviewed journals in his field and is the author and editor of numerous books. His most recent books are Human resources in the Recession: Managing and Representing People at Work in Ireland, (with Paul Teague, Anne Coughlan and Majela Fahy), Dublin: Government Publications 2011 Managing Workplace Conflict in Ireland (with Deborah Hahn and Paul Teague), Dublin: Government Publications, 2009 and Partnership at Work: The Quest for Radical Organizational Change, (with John Geary), Oxford: Routledge, 2006. He has presented the Lovett Memorial Lecture at the University of Limerick, contributed to the Thomas Davis Lecture series on RTE Radio and presented the 2008 Countess Markievicz Memorial Lecture at Trinity College, Dublin. He has led or contributed to significant strategic reviews undertaken by such bodies as the Labour Relations Commission, The National Economic and Social Council, the National Centre for Partnership and Performance and IBEC. He has served on the Councils of the Economic and Social Research Institute and of the National Centre for Partnership and Performance and on numerous boards in UCD. He is a regular contributor to TV, radio and newspaper coverage of human resource and industrial relations themes. In 2010 he was elected to a Fellowship of the Irish Academy of Management (the highest award the Academy can confer on a member) in recognition of his contribution to research and teaching in his field. |
