Dr Karan Sonpar BA MSc PhD

Biography:
| Karan is a senior lecturer in management at University
College Dublin. He earned his PhD from the
University of Alberta, Canada in 2008. His work has been
published in the Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of
Management, Human Resource Management, Organizational Research Methods,
Human Relations, Journal of Business Ethics, and British Journal of Management. Karan's work in the media appears in
the Financial Post, Irish Director, Irish Times, and RTE
One. He is a winner of an Early Career Research Award at UCD, a Professor of
the Year Teaching Award at University of Manitoba, Canada and a Teaching Award
at University of Alberta, Canada. Karan has previously held academic
appointments in Canada and Spain. He served as a Captain in the Indian Military
prior to his PhD. |
Research Interests
| My research is driven by three over-arching themes. These are: (1) the role played by cognitive and emotional states in affecting behavior within organizations, (2) the exercise of top managerial choice in the face of competing demands from institutions and stakeholders, and (3) winning in emerging markets. Key conceptual frameworks that guide my research include the attention-based view of the firm, stakeholder theory, institutional theory, and the literature on emotions and dissonance. |
