| Séamas Kelly is a Lecturer at UCD School of Business, University College Dublin, and former Director of the Centre for Innovation, Technology & Organisation (CITO). He holds a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from University College Cork, and a PhD in Management Studies/ Information Systems from the University of Cambridge. Séamas' primary research, teaching and consulting interests are in the area of ICT-enabled change processes (IS innovation), with a particular emphasis on the social/ organisational aspects of information systems implementation and use. Key themes, here, include change management and its politics, the role of ICT in facilitating novel modes of organising, and the relationship between knowledge, technology and organisation. |
|
My primary research interests concern the relationship between knowledge, IT and processes of social organisation. In particular, I am interested in social and political perspectives on the management and use of IT in, and between, business corporations and broader social institutions. More specifically, the emphasis is on two key themes: understanding the extent to which new information and communication technologies (ICT) may facilitate innovative forms of organising; and approaches to managing IS innovation.
The former theme is concerned with developing a more sophisticated understanding of how ICT is implicated in processes of social and organisational transformation. In particular, I am interested in the ways in which ICT mediates our engagement with the world, and the extent to which it may facilitate new forms of knowing, collaborative interaction, and surveillance and control. The latter theme emphasises issues relating to the management of IS strategy, design, development, implementation and evaluation.
Key words: Knowledge and organisation; Information systems (IS) innovation; ICT-enabled forms of collaborative and virtual working; Change, technology and management; Social and political theory; Social practice.
