The MSc in Business Analytics attracts a diverse set of candidates from a wide range of backgrounds, including Information Systems, Engineering, Maths, Economics, Science and Computing. These include people with practical experience, who often use the programme to redirect their career. The mix of full and part-time students from different backgrounds, working together on projects, makes the interaction between students an important and worthwhile part of the learning experience.
MSc Business Analytics students get the opportunity to work on real management problems with Irish companies as part of their dissertation.
The MSc in Business Analytics provides a fast route into IT and Information Systems management for graduates of engineering, science and other quantitative areas. Consequently the Programme is included in the Graduate Skills Conversion Programme, which is funded by the National Development Plan (NDP) of the Government of Ireland, which cover most of the fees on the course.

The Perry Bursaries are a set of prizes jointly sponsored by Accenture, SAS Ireland, & The Analytics Institute. The SAS Prize of €2,000 is awarded to the best student, the Accenture Prize of €2,000 is awarded to the best dissertation project by a team of two fulltime students and the Analytics Institute Prize of €1000 is awarded to the best dissertation project by a part-time student.

The AI brings together industry, academics, public sector and professionals to change the way organisations interact with Analytics. Distinct Business Consulting Ltd have partnered with the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School to support the MSc in Business Analytics by offering the Distinct Scholarship.
The Distinct Scholarship is a prize that is awarded to one full-time MSc Business Analytics student in the amount of €3000 for the 2011-2012 academic year. The prize is awarded after the academic year has commenced.
Applications will be invited from people who have accepted full time places on the MSc in Business Analytics and who have achieved the equivalent of a First Class honours (greater than or equal to 3.68 GPA) or a Second Class Honours, First Division (from 3.08 to 3.67 GPA inclusive) in their undergraduate degree.

Applicants will be assessed by a panel of adjudicators appointed by the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. This may include representatives from Distinct or other members of the Business community. The panel of adjudicators may decide not to offer the scholarship, if applicants do not reach an excellent standard.
Successful applicants will be expected to allow their name and photograph to be used in publicity material prepared by the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School and Distinct Business Consulting Ltd.
Those who have accepted full time places on the MSc in Business Analytics may apply by email to analytics@ucd.ie. The application email should have the subject line “Distinct Scholarship” and should contain a paragraph of no more than 100 words indicating how the applicant hopes to benefit by attending the MSc in Business Analytics programme and by working on a dissertation project with Distinct Business Consulting.
Applications for the scholarship will be accepted until Friday 15th July 2011.
Following that date, further information may be required from applicants or they may be called for interview.
