"The facilities and helpful staff at the Centre for Doctoral Research made the difficult task of completing my PhD dissertation easier and more enjoyable. The Centre has been my home during the last four years and my fellow PhD students have been my second family. Most of my research was funded by a scholarship from the European Commission, which allowed me to concentrate on my dissertation as a full-time researcher. This financial support was provided through the accountancy department in UCD."Having a PhD from UCD has significantly improved my profile and my career prospects. Located in the dedicated Centre for Doctoral Research, I enjoyed a very supportive environment for learning and research. Similar to my fellow PhD colleagues, I undertook numerous research methodology courses along with an array of discipline specific modules.
Furthermore, I was encouraged, and financed, to attend research courses and summer schools hosted by other leading universities in the UK, in continental Europe, and in North America which helped me develop a network of colleagues with similar interests to mine across different disciplines – a very important element in the development of a multi-disciplinary approach in one's research.
