"a unique support to internal and external collaborative research"
"The Centre for Doctoral Research provides a unique support to internal and external collaborative research, which is essential to my research in computational finance. As located in the Smurfit business school, there are many chances to hear innovative ideas and comments about the financial markets, from diverse background of people, such as management, marketing, accounting, where finance is not isolated itself. Also, the centre acts as an exchange hub that I could learn and exchange ideas with people from other disciplines but using similar models and computing techniques, such as people from management science, computer science, and mathematics. I am limited to my own research topic in one sense, but unlimited in my knowledge expansion, which I think is the most important thing that I value for my study here. The centre also provides funding for top conferences in the area, which is very important to establish external link and to keep pace with the most recent development in the field."

"The infrastructure and the Library database really make the difference"
"What surprised me the most when I arrived to UCD were all the facilities available for my studies. The infrastructure and the Library database really make the difference in a PhD student’s life. Furthermore, I have an enriching experience through the integration with students from all over the world. It is a precious opportunity to learn about other countries and customs, giving a different and interesting perspective on the world we live in. Another important aspect for my studies is the fact that I can count on expert researchers and lecturers that have a broad and deep knowledge and are able to bring out the best in their students. I have learned from my lecturers that we are always improving and we can always do better, which results in more consistent and thorough work."

The programme provides students with a big network of renowned academicians as well as with all the necessary facilities for their studies. In addition, funding is provided for conferences abroad which benefits the university and students in their future academic career. All in all, the PhD programme at UCD is playing an important role in the creation of new managerial academic knowledge in Ireland and in the overall academic community."
