About Dr. Eva Knies

Dr. Knies is Associate Professor Organisational Studies and HRM at Utrecht University School of Governance.  Her research interests are strategic Human Resource Managment, HRM in the public sector, and sustainable employability.  Her research is published in journals such as Human Resource management Journal, the International Journal of Human Resource Management, Personnel Review, Public Administration, Public Administration Review and Review of Public Personnel Administration.  Eva's teaching involves a graduate course HR Studies and undergraduate courses on organizational theory, strategic HRM, and research methodology.  For more information please click here.

In the seminar, 'People management and performance in a public sector context', Eva Knies will discuss her research on the impact of people management on organisational and employee outcomes (i.e. performance and employee well-being).  She will particularly focus on the role of line managers in the effective implementation of HR practices (HR enactment), and the impact of line managers' leadership behaviour on employees' attitudes and behaviours, and ultimately performance (see for examples: Knies & Leisink, 2014 in: HRMJ; Knies & Leisink, 2014, in: RoPPA).  Given the importance of context, she will elaborate on several specific features of a public sector context which have an impact on the people management-performance chain (see for examples: Tummers & Knies, 2016, in: Public Administration; Van Loon, Leisink, Knies & Brewer, 2016, in: Public Administration Review).  In 2015, Eva received a grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research for a comparative study of public service performance and people management in various national (NL, UK, DK), and sectoral (healthcare, Education) contexts.  In the second part of the seminar Eva will discuss the results of two studies that she conducted as part of this project.
