Participants’ Profile - Class of 2007-08


Jim Baneham

Jim is Company Secretary and Head of Corporate Services with the National Building Agency Ltd. His background is in Quantity Surveying and he has spent almost 20 years in practice in both the private and public sectors. In recent years Jim has been involved in advising Local Authorities on a number of development projects involving the private sector.


Cian Blackwell

Cian is a partner in Grant Thornton's Business Risk Services (BRS) division, responsible for risk management, internal audit, corporate governance, third-party assurance and technology advisory services. He is a Chartered Accountant, having trained with PKF in Dublin , and has 14 years' professional services experience, including over 5 years as a management consultant with Accenture.


Patrick Burke

Paddy is an Assistant National Director with the HSE. He is responsible for the National Shared Service which reimburses General Practitioners, Pharmasists, Dentists and Ophthalmologiests (PCRS). He holds a B.Sc in Computer Applications from DCU and a Masters in Project Management from UL. In additional he is a Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.


Carol Cronin

Carol is head of corporate services and secretary to the board of the Health Research Board (HRB). The HRB supports and funds health research, maintains health information systems, and conducts research linked to national health priorities. Prior to joining the HRB Carol worked in the food industry in the UK . Carol trained as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young in Cork and holds a B.Comm from UCC.


Michael Kennedy

Michael is Manager Guarantee Business at Allianz Corporate with reporting function to the Board of Management. He holds a Bachelor of Business Studies Degree from Trinity College Dublin. He was involved with a voluntary association in the Education sector at national board level.


Joseph Lane

Joseph is Administrative Officer with Wicklow County Council. He previously held positions as Head of Finance and Dierctor of Services Community and Enterprise with Wicklow County Council.


Margaret Larkin

Margaret has over 18 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry, working both in Ireland and the US in finance directors positions both locally and globally. She holds FCCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and AITI (Institute of Taxation) qualifications. She is currently a director of the corporate captive reinsurance company.


Conall Lavery

Conall Lavery is an entrepreneur, one of the companies he founded was Entropy which was the leading company in Ireland specialising in IT security. Conall has worked in the IT and communications industries since 1977. Currently Conall is an executive of the Encircle Foundation, a not for profit charity.


M artina Lennon

A qualified accountant, Martina currently holds the position of Management Accountant in the HSE. Martina has a high level of interest in working with local organisation to grow their capacity to contribute to the economic development of their communities. Prior to HSE, she held position at group management accounting level in large private sector companies. She is a director of a not for profit organisation and also in a private family company.


Adrian Lynch

Adrian Lynch spent ten years with AON Insurance Managers in Ireland, Grand Cayman and New York as Director of Business Development, leaving AON in April 2005. As CEO of Westwind Alternative Risk Ltd. Adrian has a number of holdings in Private Placement Life Insurance Companies, Brokerage Companies and offers strategic, reinsurance and alternative risk consulting services to the High Net Worth Client primarily in the US and offshore markets. He holds a number of NED roles with Insurance Companies in Ireland , Switzerland, Bahamas, Barbados and Nevis.


Johnny McClintock

Johnny is an Adviser at Rosecastle Capital. His career in the finance industry started in London when he joined Thornton Management in 1987. He subsequently moved to Mercury Asset Management (MAM) in 1989 where he spent 13 years, initially as a business development director in the UK . He established an office in Bahrain in 1994 and was MAM’s Chief Representative in the Middle East until 2001. More recently, he was an executive director of Taylor Young Investment Management, a private client specialist. He joined Rosecastle Capital in 2007 as an adviser.


Terry McWade

Terry is Deputy Chief Executive of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.


Robert Martin

Robert Martin recently retired from the health services having served in a number of senior positions in various Dublin Voluntary Hospitals since 1986. Robert is now involved
in private healthcare consulting and undertook the course on corporate governance at UCD to enhance his understanding of the subject. The course has been challenging and one of the benefits is the encouragement of class participation which assists learning.


Damien Moloney

Damien is an advisory counsel in the Office of the Attorney General since 1995. Before that he was a junior counsel in the Law Library Dublin serving the South Eastern Circuit. He holds a degree of Barrister at Law from the Kings' Inns, a degree in law from Trinity College Dublin, a Diploma in European Law from University College Dublin and a Diplome de Francais Juridique from the Chambre de Paris.


Declan Murray

Declan is a Director & Chief Operating Officer of Pioneer Alternative Investments Limited. He has 17 years financial services experience in asset management and investment banking in Dublin & London . He is a board member of a number of Pioneer Group companies & Fund companies in the alternative investment sector. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland .


David O’Brien

David’s career has been in Banking and Finance, he has spent the last 22 years as Finance Director and Compliance Officer with a firm dealing on the Dublin Inter-Bank Money Market. He currently works as an independent advisor to companies addressing issues of growth and transformation.


Bob Semple

Bob has been a partner for over 20 years in PricewaterhouseCoopers and currently has responsibility for the firm’s services in Corporate Governance, Risk Management and Compliance. Bob holds a BSc from UCD, and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and of the Irish Computer Society.


Marie Sinnott

Marie is a senior manager with the Electricity Supply Board with responsibility for Group licensing and regulatory compliance in the electricity market. A B.Comm (hons) graduate of UCD, Marie worked briefly in the Department of Energy before joining the ESB on their Business Graduate Development Programme. She has held a number of senior roles in the company including Group Procurement Manager and Project Manager for the establishment of a number of separate regulated businesses.


Anne-Marie Taylor

Anne-Marie was a Senior Executive with Accenture where she worked as a management consultant both in Ireland and internationally. She was also Director of HR and Director of Operations in Accenture's European Finance Shared Service Centre. She holds a BA from UCD and an MA from the University of Illinois . She is currently an independent consultant and an executive coach.


Tom Trainor

Tom is Chief Executive of The Marketing Institute of Ireland. He previously held global revenue responsibilities with Trintech, where he was Executive Vice President, and he worked with Cambridge Technology Partners in New York . Tom has an MBA from UCD and he has completed an executive programme at Harvard Business School .


Alan Wallace

Alan Wallace is a partner in Mangan O’Beirne Solicitors in Donnybrook, Dublin 4. He has previously completed an LLB law degree from University of London and diplomas from the Law Society of Ireland in Commercial Conveyancing and Applied European Law.


Janet Watters

Janet has a background in the Financial services industry in particular the Banking Treasury sector and Corporate Treasury. In 1990 she set up the Securitas group's internal bank in the IFSC. This centre was subsequently designated Group Treasury Centre. Janet continued there as MD until 2006. She is currently a NED on the Securitas Treasury Ireland Limited's board.
