Participants’ Profile - Class of 2010-11

Max Barrett

Max was recently brought into Anglo Irish Bank as Group Company Secretary and is one of the new management team appointed with ministerial approval following the Bank’s nationalisation. Max is a practising solicitor and was formerly Head of Legal and Compliance with Danske Bank (National Irish Bank) and Rabobank in Ireland. Max holds a Ph.D. in Law and has published numerous books and articles on various legal topics.

Denis Byrne

Denis took early retirement in December 2009 following a Public Service career in Industry and Commerce, Foreign Affairs and Agriculture. He was appointed to the Board of the national forestry company, Coillte in January 2010. He holds a B.Comm. degree from UCD and a Masters in Management Science from Trinity. He undertakes selected consultancy work and is a part time tutor in the Open University MBA programme.

Miriam Doyle

Miriam is Director of Legal, Public Affairs & Communications for CPS Ireland. She sits on executive and company boards of a number of different global Coca-Cola businesses from manufacturing to financial services. She was previously a company solicitor in financial services. Qualified as a solicitor, tax consultant and mediator with over 20 years of public relations experience, she has been a director of commercial and voluntary organisations for many years.

Anne Grady

As Head of Administration in the National Museum, Anne is responsible for securing and managing financial resources, HR, and managing and developing ICT systems. Anne project managed the transition of the Museum from the Civil Service to autonomous status in 2005. Her career to-date has centered on working in both the heritage and cultural areas of the public service. Anne holds a BA, Higher Diploma in Education, and a Master’s of Science.

Kevin Hanratty

Kevin has worked in various global supply chain management positions over the past 15 years including Purchasing, Planning, Manufacturing Operations and Logistics. He is currently responsible for the design and deployment of supply chain operations, processes and systems for the IT Division of Schneider Electric globally. His Primary Degree is a BEng in Manufacturing Systems and he also has an MSc in Computer Integrated Manufacturing from Cranfield University.

Michael Hodson

Michael has over 20 years experience in financial services. He is a qualified accountant who has held a number of executive and non-executive directorships. Most recently he was Finance Director of Merrion Capital Group, where he was one of the original founders, member of management team, director and significant shareholder. He has been approved by the Financial Regulator as a director to a number of investment firms and is currently a non-executive director of Marketspreads, the financial spread betting company.

Martin Mc Cormack

Martin is currently Director of ICT in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. He has over 14 years experience in senior management roles focused on delivering change. Martin has held board and advisory board positions on a number of charities and not for profit entities. He holds a Bachelor’s degree and MA from Trinity College Dublin, a MA in Healthcare Management from the Institute of Public Administration and is certified in Certified Risk and Compliance Management (CRCMP).

Brian McLoghlin

Brian is a company director, mediator and solicitor. His 40 years of experience both in-house and private practice as a lawyer has been mainly in the commercial field. As a company director, Brian chairs a number of boards in insurance, property development, leisure and sport. He also serves on boards in the field of aircraft finance. Brian began his career as a barrister but subsequently became a solicitor working in-house, including with Aer Lingus and GPA Group plc.

David Mc Namara

David is a financial specialist and industrialist. His range of industrial and financial interests includes chemical manufacturing company, Micro Bio Ltd and European real estate company, Thevi NV. David manages his own and third party absolute return private funds. He pursued a 21 year investment banking career at JP Morgan Chase, Bank of Nova Scotia and others where he built and managed debt and equity trading and sales operations. He is a graduate of Law, Trinity College Dublin and is a Master of Business Studies, specialising in Banking and Finance, UCD.

Richard Morton

Richard is an Independent Director and Venture Consultant specialising in strategy, business planning and funding with technology start up companies. He has over twenty five years’ experience in global businesses and currently works with a leading seed and early stage venture capital company in Dublin. Richard holds an MBA from Warwick Business School, a BSc in Geography from the University of Otago (NZ), and is a Member of the Marketing Institute of Ireland.

Mary Noonan

Mary is Company Secretary and Vice President with KBC Finance Ireland. She has over fifteen years experience in Global Project Finance, underwriting and providing funding for infrastructure, telecommunications and industrial projects. Previously she was Head of Legal and Company Secretary with Don Bluth Entertainment Limited. Mary holds a Bachelor of Civil Law from UCD. She is a Solicitor and practiced with McCann FitzGerald.

Annette Norton

Annette is Commercial Director of Sam McLernon Ltd. a family run firm that specialises in the manufacture and distribution of Pharmaceutical Packaging. She has over 25 years experience in the Packaging Industry. She holds a BA and MA in Human Resource Management from the National College of Ireland and is a Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Brian O’Brien

Brian is Manager of the Financial Performance and Governance area in ESB Networks. He previously worked for a publicly quoted company in Scotland and, before that, a firm of Chartered Accountants in London. He holds a BComm. from UCC, an MBA from Heriot-Watt University and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.

John O’Brien

John O’Brien is Company Secretary and Head of Corporate Strategy at IDA Ireland. From 1999 to 2008 he served as Economic Adviser and Programme Manager to the Tánaiste and Ministers for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Health and Justice. Prior to that, he held various senior executive positions with IDA in both Ireland and the US. He has also worked for the European Union and undertaken economic development assignments for the World Bank

Sean Quigley

Sean is Head of Resource Management in the Courts Service. He has over 30 years experience in a number of large public sector organisations, including Trinity College and Teagasc. His responsibilities include Financial Management, Investment, Corporate Governance, Risk Management, Strategic Planning, Procurement, Training and Organisational Development. He is a member of the Investment Committee. A Chartered Accountant, he also holds a Masters in Organisational Behaviour from Trinity College.

Dermot O’Rourke

Dermot is a solicitor who set up his own legal practice in 1981 participating in its growth into a large, medium sized firm of solicitors. He specialised in commercial property, commercial law and sports law and retired in 2004. Since then he has acted as a consultant to companies and private clients and in a judicial and advisory role to governing sports bodies in Ireland, following on from previous experience as a Formula One motor racing lawyer.

John Walley

John is a member of the Institute of Bankers and the Institute of Auditors in Ireland. He currently acts as consultant within the hedge fund industry having spent ten years as Chief Executive of Olympia Capital Ireland Ltd. Previously he was Group Managing Director of Investors Trust Holdings (Ireland) Ltd., and he established Chemical Bank’s first presence in Ireland and was its MD. He also held senior management roles in Chase Manhattan Bank in Ireland.
