ISE Report on Compliance with Combined Code by Irish listed companies

Professor Niamh Brennan recently chaired the Review Group commissioned by The Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) and the Irish Association of Investment Managers (IAIM) to report on Compliance with the Combined Code on Corporate Governance by Irish listed companies. The research was undertaken by Margaret Cullen, ad astra scholar at the Smurfit School , who is completing a PhD at the Centre for Corporate Governance at UCD.  

The Report found that while there is a high level of compliance by Irish listed companies with the Combined Code [1] (“the Code) there is a need for listed companies to enhance the meaningfulness of their corporate governance disclosures.  The Report’s recommendations should facilitate companies in achieving this and in delivering to emerging investor expectations.

The Combined Code on Corporate Governance (“the Code”) is published by the Financial Reporting Council in the UK . Irish listed companies are required to meet the Code on a “comply or explain” basis.
