Assessment

Assessment is solely on the basis of the research. The purpose of the taught workshops on research methods is to assist participants in identifying key issues of a strategic nature that should be addressed in order to realise personal career objectives as well as organisational goals. By testing leading edge management theory and practice through the means of academic research, participants will gain a deeper appreciation of the value and challenges of putting theory into practice. While the subject of the research may be similar to what was carried out in year one, the extent of the research will be significantly expanded on to fulfill the requirements of a postgraduate thesis. Based on the subject matter chosen, a thesis supervisor will be assigned to each participant. The role of the supervisor is to guide the participant through each stage of the research and subsequent thesis submission.

The workshops on research methods will introduce you to the process of scientific enquiry, with a focus on a selection of current theoretical and empirical trends in academic business research. You will gain insights into defining research problems, analysing and synthesising pertinent literatures, and designing research projects. You will be exposed to some issues involved in data collection and analysis, as well as interpretation and presentation of findings. The taught element of the programme is designed to equip participants with the ability to design, undertake and present a substantial piece of research in the area of sales management.

The workshops will take place in the Executive Education Centre at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. Exact workshop dates to be confirmed prior to programme start.
