Biography

Matt Glowatz has been a college lecturer in the College of Business at University College Dublin (UCD) since 1997 delivering both undergraduate and postgraduate modules covering Social Media Strategy, Strategic Information Systems Management, Project Management, Business Analytics, Digital Marketing and Innovation.

Matt is the the subject area coordinator for the College of Business' MIS modules in Singapore, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka.

His main research interests cover electronic learning (eLearning), Innovation and Social Media related themes.

Matt is the academic coordinator for international students and is a member of UCD¿s Centre for the Future of Learning. Matt was invited to join the advisory board for the Inclusive Design Research Centre (IDRC) of Ireland being responsible for Social Media and eLearning.

In April 2013, the European Commission (The Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA)) awarded Matt with a scholarship advising the University of Nizwa (Oman) on eLearning-related issues.

Matt received twice the Excellence in Teaching Awards in the Higher Diploma of Business Studies (IT) programme and won the Educational Contribution Award at the Irish Internet Association's Net Visionary Awards recognizing his significant contribution to the Irish Internet Industry through education.

In March 2015, Matt was invited to deliver the closing keynote address at the inaugural EdTECx event in Ireland discussing the future of educational technologies in the context of the higher education sector. 

In July 2015, Matt has been appointed co-chair of the Bled e-Conference special interest group focusing on Education in the Digital Economy. In addition, he has also published numerous research articles and conference contributions.

 

Matt successfully completed an academic case study writing and teaching programme from Harvard Business School between July 2015 and February 2016.

Teaching Philosophy

My main goals are to disseminate knowledge and to encourage learning beyond classroom sessions. This will be achieved by a semester-long lasting (and beyond) "learning from each other¿ collaborative learning environment utilising innovative eLearning tools and applications.
