Our Campus

Our historic and intimate campus is located in the seaside town of Blackrock, 10km south of Dublin City Centre and just 3km from the main University College Dublin campus. 

The campus and buildings exude charm and character while offering first-class facilities for our students to study, relax, socialise and live in the surroundings of a magnificent period estate in the vibrant residential community of Blackrock.

Facilities and Services

 

As a UCD student, you have access to library collections, including e-books, e-journals and databases on and off campus. Study areas and information and borrowing services are available at the libraries on both the Blackrock and UCD Belfield campuses.

Our UCD Smurfit School Library is a modern library housed within a 19th -century chapel with wi-fi and power points for individual study and group work.

UCD Smurfit School offers first-class teaching facilities equipped with the latest audio visual technology:

  • Lecture theatres
  • Seminar rooms
  • Active Learning Rooms (large flat-floor collaborative rooms)
  • Financial Data room

Video conferencing and lecture capture facilities are available along with technology support from a dedicated team.

UCD Smurfit School has dedicated study facilities with full wi-fi cover for students:

  • 12 bookable rooms for group work. Students can book slots through SISWeb. As part of your induction each student will receive a unique ucdconnect email address which many students choose to keep as alumni
  • Student common room, providing the highest standard of technological access, specially designed for group or individual work
  • Orange Lounge, a breakout social area used by students to collaborate and to meet in-between lectures
  • Study area that can accomodate 200 students
  • Blackrock Library study area
  • Ample Meeting Rooms with internet connection.

 

 

 

 

Campus Services desk is located at the back of the main building, providing:

  • First aid
  • Emergency response / defibrillators
  • Lost and found property
  • Out of hours access
  • General building maintenance and repair
  • Room bookings
  • Post

The Information and Learning Technology Group (ILTG) works closely with many key service providers in the university to augment and enhance technology services for students. We run a help desk located in the Smurfit School to support staff and students alike where we also offer advice and guidance on a wide range of IT issues. We also support the technology-enhanced classrooms around campus and provide full audio visual support services. 

Students have unlimited Internet access via the school’s wired and wireless networks throughout all open and study areas as well as technology-enhanced classrooms and collaborative spaces.

Copi Print - operates a self-service printing and copying area for staff and students, stationery sales, UCard top up, UCD College Gift Collection. Opening hours are 10:00-18:00 Monday to Friday.

Also available on campus:

There are a number of green areas and courtyards around the campus that students can enjoy for work or relaxation purposes including a lovely lawn area with mature trees outside the main restaurant. The campus is also closely located to the seaside and dedicated cycling paths.

There are three parks within walking distance of Blackrock Campus:

  • Carysfort Parka pleasant open park area with playground and pond located next door to the campus.
  • Rockfield Park - located at the other side of Carysfort Avenue and houses tennis and rugby clubs.
  • Blackrock Park - lovely big public park located in Blackrock Village. The park has a jogging and bike track along the Dublin coastline as well as a playground and some adult exercise machines.  There is a great sea view and is the perfect place to spend a lunch break.

Alumni Office:

The key focus of UCD Business Alumni is to help our business graduates keep in touch with colleagues, classmates, academics and the wider business community through a range of alumni activities and supports.

Main Restaurant

Monday to Friday: 10am - 2.30pm

 - Hot & Cold Drinks, Pastries and Snacks are served from 10am - 12noon

 - Lunch is served from 12 - 2.30pm

Urban Picnic is a healthy food catering company based in Dublin. They pride themselves on providing nutritious, delicious and energising food, they see as an opportunity for collaboration and bonding – 'we firmly believe some of the best ideas happen over great food'.

Urban Picnic Coffee Dock - Lucy's

Lucy's Coffee Dock is situated within the main school building beside the Common Room area.

It provides a broad range of healthy continental breakfast options including cereals, pastries, juices, and yoghurts. Hot and cold beverages and snacks are available all day. Throughout the day, substantial and healthy sandwiches, salads, soups and prepared meals are available. There is a seated area inside and out which is ideal for a quick coffee and pastry break or takeaway.

Saturday: 8am - 2pm

 

Student Kitchenette

There is a microwave facility available for students’ use in the coffee dock area.

Vending Machines

Vending machines providing snacks and drinks are located beside the Services desk area.

Off-Campus Options

There are many coffee shops, restaurants, pubs and newsagent shops in Blackrock village providing various eating options, from take away snacks and lunches to sit-in dining for lunch or dinner. For more information click here.

 

As a student of UCD, Smurfit students also have access to a wide range of facilities, services and student societies which are located on the main university campus at Belfield, located 4kms away.  A shuttle bus operates between UCD Smurfit School and the Belfield campus daily, ensuring our students are connected to the wider university and array of facilities.
