Following an academic review the structure of the M.Sc. in Quantitative Finance has changed and will now contain 7 core modules and a choice of 2 option modules, an internship with an option module or a research project.

Where the course is taken part-time over 2 years, employer support is essential as the classes will be held during the working day.

Who is the MSC in Quantitative Finance for?

The MSc in Quantitative Finance is ideal for people who have majored in mathematical finance or economics and trains you to use your quantitative talents to the full.  However, we try to accommodate people from diverse professional backgrounds who are attracted to the programme. If you have a degree in mathematics, statistics, physics and engineering, the MSc in Quantitative Finance could be for you. We also encourage commerce graduates who have the disposition and natural talent for a mathematically rigorous training in finance.

The MSc in Quantitative Finance is a balanced programme of finance and computational methods, which will suit numerate, competitive students looking for careers in finance that stretch their quantitative talents.

Objectives

We aim to give you the knowledge and skills to develop quantitative security pricing models and trading strategies. These will help you manage portfolios of equity, fixed income and derivative securities. You will also develop the tools for managing corporate financial risk.

What will I learn?

The curriculum gives you the knowledge and skills to develop quantitative security pricing models and trading strategies for managing portfolios of equity, fixed income and derivative securities and for managing corporate financial risk.

The programme provides you with a comprehensive understanding of the major financial theories and how they impact on the practise of finance.  You will learn how to implement financial models using various programming languages and how to critically evaluate the ability of these models.  The programme also aims to provide you with the ability to carry out independent research on the uses of financial models, their implementation and their limitations.
