Who is the MSc in Strategic Management Accounting (SMA) for?

The MSc in Strategic Management Accounting (SMA) is designed for students wishing to combine master degree interests with a fast-track towards a professional accounting recognition and career. SMA classes are scheduled at the end of the week to facilitate students’ regular work commitments while studying part-time.

Accreditation

The SMA programme is fully accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and offers successful graduates full exemption from all CIMA exams except the Institute’s final Test of Professional Competence (T4).

Course objectives

The vision of the MSc in Strategic Management Accounting programme is to equip participants with a systematic and rigorous knowledge of management accounting within the context of strategic management.

The collaboration of UCD Smurfit School and CIMA, together with the business community, have informed the design of the programme so that it responds to strategic corporate needs.

The programme will:  

  • Equip you with the most advanced techniques and tools in management accounting, management control and performance management;
  • Foster your ability to translate and implement strategic objectives through management accounting and control systems;
  • Provide you with the ability and method to analyse a management accounting and control system; 
  • Equip you with the expertise to define and implement the management accounting and control system appropriate to the strategic needs of your organization;
  • Develop your leadership capabilities to undertake key roles in the management of organisations.
