This course focuses on the behaviour of individuals and groups in organisations. It reflects on the complexity of contemporary organisations and the challenges and opportunities that exist within organisational life. It is a multidisciplinary subject drawing from the fields of psychology, sociology, engineering, political science, anthropology, management and organisation theory. OB is concerned with the behaviour of individuals and groups within organisations and the interaction with their external environment. It borrows heavily from the area of behavioural sciences offering methods and models that assist us in gaining insight and understanding. We will address selected issues of particular concern to today¿s business organisations. These issues may include, among others, new forms of work arrangements, the impact of personality in delivering performance and people management in new organisational forms, or other topics that you have particular interest in. We will investigate these selected issues with a view towards individual and organisational dynamics on different levels of analysis. Throughout the course we will adopt, discuss and critique different perspectives to fully explore their potential contributions. To fully understand why people think and behave as they do in organisational settings we must learn about them as individuals, as groups participants and as players within the broader landscape of organisational settings and the interplay between all these factors. This course offers the opportunity to develop skills in and knowledge about management and organisational behaviour, and to gain insights into selected areas of concern to business organisations and their participants. After completing this course, participants should have further developed their understanding and acquired the tools, necessary to analyse and assess the managerial and organisational implications of such issues at the individual, group and organisational levels of analysis.
