The UCD Smurfit Career Development Centre team provide a powerful blend of professional services tailored to the needs of students and recruiters. We play a key role across the Smurfit Business School, working closely with students, staff and potential employers to enhance student employability skills and career prospects.
What you get out of your MBA at Smurfit depends on your goals, ambitions and experience. We are here to offer guidance, training and insight each step of the way.
Over the course of the year, the Career Development team organises various workshops which help you clarify your career goals, fine-tune your job search strategies and adopt the most effective approach to the marketplace. Workshops cover areas such as:
- Executive Job Search Skills
- Your Leadership CV
- Online Media and the Job Search
- Crafting your Story
- Best Practice Experience and Case Interview Skills
- Strategic and Tactical Networking
Each year, the Career Development Centre publishes the curriculum vitae of all participants available for employment in a book which is sent to over 500 recruiters internationally. It is also available online for prospective MBA hiring companies.
As part of this process, the Career Development team will provide one-on-one guidance to participants on their marketing documents and how best to tailor them for their areas of interest.
Every year we help to prepare you for real interviews via mock interview sessions with head-hunters. This practice is key in ensuring you receive tried and tested advice from experts, and the skills to create a good impression on important people.
Throughout the year, companies and start-ups come on campus to present their companies and potential career opportunities. During the one-hour sessions, students learn about the companies, gather useful information related to career paths and have an opportunity to ask questions.
Networking evenings are informal ways to learn about new industries. MBA students meet with companies from different industries (for example Consulting, Digital Media and Technology, Energy and Financial Services) invited by UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School. In this open and informal setting, attendees can share information amongst each other
The dedicated MBA Career Development team are available to provide students personal assistance with their job search. The open door policy means that you constantly have access to cutting-edge advice from our coaches, whether on your individual career strategy, your CV, or how to best approach interviews.
