MBA Case study winners 2019

A group of five full time MBA students has won the 2019 IBM Technology Case Competition in Georgetown University, Washington DC. The team comprised of Carla Peters, Colm Garrick, Ger Finneran, Swathi Shenoy & Ciara Close.

As part of the process, the team submitted a video entry and were one of 9 teams invited to participate in the final (of approximately 25 teams). Other finalists included HKUST, John Hopkins and Carnegie Mellon.

The challenge was to provide a solution using IBM tools and present as if they were IBM consultants to an IBM client FEMA (the Federal Emergency Management Agency – disaster response agency in the US). The topic was around ‘Education’.

They specifically looked at the FEMA website and app, as well as VR technology and how this might be used as an education and training tool for FEMA and partners. They looked at how to improve digital touchpoints for the public. The group won overall first prize and received a cheque in the amount of $4,000. In addition to this honour, they are the first non-US group to have their School – UCD Smurfit School - listed on the trophy.

Congratulations to the team on this achievement.
