Thirty journalists named to UCD Smurfit School Business Journalist Awards Shortlist

24 November 2022: The UCD Smurfit School Business Journalist Awards are delighted to announce the shortlist for the 2022 Business Journalist Awards which includes 30 journalists over seven categories. The awards are sponsored by the Bank of Ireland and honour excellence in Irish business journalism across the media spectrum. Entries are submitted by nominees themselves or on behalf of journalists by their editors or peers.

Since its launch in 2007, the UCD Smurfit School Business Journalist Awards have received over 1,500 entries from business journalists across print, broadcast and online media outlets in Ireland.

The winner of each category will be announced at an awards ceremony on Monday, 5th December, with each winning category awarded a €1,000 prize.                  

The awards are adjudicated by an independent panel of judges composed of business, media and academic leaders. This year’s independent panel of judges was chaired by Breege O’Donoghue, Primark Brand Ambassador, Member of the Board of The Kylemore Trust, Member of Hillsborough Castle Board, Chair of Carroll Estates Dublin Ltd, Chair of Real World Analytics, Non- Executive Director of Shaw & Sons Ltd, Member of UCD Smurfit School Irish Advisory Board, Member of the Outside Appointments Board (Civil Service Code of Standards and Behaviour), and Member of Presidents Campaign Cabinet, TUD.

The panel of judges includes:

  • Professor Gerardine Doyle, Director of UCD Smurfit School and Associate Dean of UCD College of Business;
  • Professor Patrick Gibbons, Professor of Strategic Management, UCD College of Business;
  • Alan Gleeson, Management Consultant for Colas Ireland and MBA candidate;
  • Tony Golden, Independent Non-Executive Director, former Chairman of Citi Corporate and Investment Bank Ireland;
  • Vivienne Jupp, Non-executive Director of Premier Lotteries Ireland, former Global Managing Director in Accenture;
  • Conor Keane, Senior Consultant at Heneghan, former Business Editor, Irish Examiner, journalist and documentary maker;
  • Áine Kerr, Entrepreneur and Broadcaster, Head of Content Safety Analysis, Spotify;
  • Professor Colm McLaughlin,Professor of Employment Relations, Vice Principal for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, UCD College of Business;
  • Susan O’Keefe, Executive Director of Yeats Society Sligo;
  • Nóirín O’Sullivan, former Assistant Secretary General for the UN Department of Safety and Security; former Irish Garda Commissioner, Member of the North American Advisory Board of UCD Smurfit School and also Board Member of the National Maternity Hospital;
  • Professor Federica Pazzaglia,Subject Area Head of Management, UCD College of Business;
  • Anton Savage, Broadcaster and a founding Director of The Communications Clinic.
