UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School has secured re-accreditation of its MBA programmes from one of the world’s leading independent authorities on postgraduate business education, The Association of MBAs (AMBA). This achievement ensures UCD Smurfit School remains the only business school in Ireland (and one of only 82 worldwide) to hold the prestigious ‘triple crown’ of accreditation from three highly respected accreditation bodies – EQUIS (Europe); AACSB (US) and AMBA (UK).

The Association of MBAs accreditation represents the highest standard of achievement in postgraduate business education and is based on a rigorous assessment of business schools’ MBA programmes ensuring they demonstrate the upmost standards in teaching and curriculum development. Attaining and retaining the AMBA accreditation for another five years is further evidence of UCD Smurfit School’s commitment to excellence in business education.

Today’s announcement is the latest in a series of highly respected independent validations of UCD Smurfit School’s status as Ireland’s top graduate business school. The full-time MSc in International Management was, last week, ranked 15th globally in the prestigious Financial Times rankings. Earlier this year the MSc in Finance was positioned 36th in the world with Smurfit Executive Development Open Enrolment programmes ranked 48th globally by the FT.

Commenting Professor Tony Brabazon, Interim Dean, UCD College of Business said: “Today’s AMBA re-accreditation announcement illustrates our success in maintaining and improving the standards of excellence at UCD Smurfit School. The AMBA accreditation is an important external and independent validation of our MBA teaching, curriculum development and student interaction and benchmarks us against the world’s top business schools.”

AMBA Chief Executive Andrew Main Wilson added: “AMBA is a truly global business organisation and the only accrediting body that specifically focuses on accrediting MBA programmes.   We are very particular about who we accredit. In fact, AMBA accredits less than 5% of the world’s entire portfolio of business schools. Operating as both an accreditation and membership organisation, AMBA is unique in the postgraduate management field, as it brings together the business leaders of tomorrow with the thought leaders of today".

With its re-accreditation UCD Smurfit School remains a valued component of the world’s leading business schools. We value working closely with them and AMBA’s MBA members to ensure outstanding postgraduate management education continues to be the top priority for employers, governments and ambitious executives who will become the global business leaders of the future.”

UCD Smurfit School first obtained AMBA accreditation in 2001. The next review is due in 2022.
