Report 2: Working at Home and Employee Well-being during the Covid-19 Pandemic

This is the second in a series of reports detailing preliminary findings from the UCD Working in Ireland Survey, 2021. This report looks specifically at the effects of homeworking on workers’ health and well-being across Ireland, their preferences for future working arrangements, and the implications for employers. The paper’s findings are important because they derive from the only representative survey of workers’ views of homeworking and well-being during the Covid-19 pandemic to date. Report 4: Essential Workers’ Experience of Work during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Ireland

This report examines the work experiences of essential workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Although widely and rightly acclaimed for their bravery, dedication and hard work, there has been no comprehensive study to date of essential workers’ job quality and well-being during the pandemic in Ireland. We provide the first and only such study. Specifically, the report details essential workers' perceived level of risk of contracting COVID-19 at work, the demands placed upon them, their consequent well-being, and how effectively management and trade unions supported them. The report’s findings are derived from the UCD Working in Ireland Survey (WIIS), which is the only representative survey of essential workers’ experiences of work in Ireland during the pandemic.

Report 5: Job Quality in Ireland

In this report, we examine the quality of people’s jobs in Ireland's labour market. We draw from data collected in UCD’s Working in Ireland Survey (WIIS), 2021. We identify where the good and poor jobs are and who occupies them. We estimate the proportion of the workforce that occupies jobs in either of these categories and other jobs in-between of varying levels of quality. An analysis of this depth and rigour has never been undertaken before in Ireland. It is critically important that it is conducted given the well-established links between job quality and workers’ health and well-being, as well as the productive performance of an economy. Relatedly, our findings are important because they will help employers and policy-makers to better appreciate what actions need to be taken to improve people’s job quality. The report also provides a statistical and analytical rigorous benchmark against which future changes in the quality of people’s jobs in Ireland might be assessed.
