Programme Content

The programme comprises of two modules, ‘The Theory and Practice of Business and Executive Coaching’ and ‘The Practice of Business and Executive Coaching in the Workplace’ and is delivered over six workshops and concentrates on both theoretical and practical input. Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a UCD Smurfit Executive Development Professional Diploma in Business and Executive Coaching (30 credits at NFQ Level 9).

Content

 Addresses key areas including definitions of coaching, coaching principles, spectrum of coaching skills, the GROW model, coaching supervision and getting started with a client.

Addresses key areas including the psychological dimension of coaching; the four dimensions of a coaching session (anxiety, threat, self-protection, self and relationship management), the Gestalt approach, emotional intelligence and group supervision.

Provides participants with an understanding of the creative approaches to coaching and covers key areas such as identifying your coaching agenda, coach practice, group supervision and coaching demonstrations.

Examines the process of change and addresses key areas such as the Prochaska model of Change, the Cycle of Experience, Immunity to Change, group supervision and coach practice.

Explores the key areas of coaching and leadership. It is designed to provide participants with an understanding of authentic leadership.

Provides participants with an in-depth understanding of the organisational aspects of coaching. It covers topics such as contracting with the organisation, the emergence of team coaching and the role of line managers in coaching.

In addition there will be 3 x 1 hour group conference call 'check-ins' scheduled to assist with the completion of the 90 hours of coaching programme requirement.

Meet the Faculty

Our dedicated team of faculty are widely recognised as skilled educators, ground-breaking researchers and accomplished authors. Through publishing, consulting and teaching they leverage their business expertise and field-based research to deliver programmes, encourage participants to develop new ways of thinking, widen their perspectives and to understand their own challenges and capabilities.

The faculty present topics via a range of engaging methods such as ‘action learning’ projects, case studies, role plays, individual assessment and one-on-one coaching, so as to deliver a unique and lasting learning experience.

Colm Murphy has a wealth of experience in all aspects of coaching. He is a successful executive and team coach whose area of expertise is in taking a psychological approach with leaders and their teams to achieve meaningful behavioural changes that drive business results. Colm set up his own coaching business in June 2008, following ten years in senior global Learning and Development roles. He helps leaders and teams improve their performance by raising their awareness of their attitudes, assumptions and behaviours and the impact these have on their effectiveness.

Colm has extensive coaching experience in large multinationals and in the public sector. His coaching ranges from preparing individual contributors for management roles to helping leaders widen their impact on their organizations. He is also an experienced team coach for senior leadership teams around the areas of team performance and effectiveness.

Colm is currently completing his Doctorate on “How does team coaching contribute to team effectiveness?”.

He has co-authored a chapter on Team Effectiveness for The Practitioner’s

Handbook of Team Coaching published by Routledge (2018).

Colm is Programme Director of the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School’s Diploma in Team Coaching, and has taught on the Diploma in Business and Executive Coaching since 2010. He also contributes to the UCD Smurfit Diploma in Organisational Change and Transformation, and on the Leading for High Impact and Results Programme.

Pamela is an executive coach, coach tutor and coach supervisor.

Pamela has worked as a coach tutor and coach supervisor since 2014 and has practiced as a coach since 2008. Pamela works with clients across a diverse range of industry sectors in Ireland and the UK.

Prior to working as a coach, Pamela was business performance manager with Diageo Ireland and started career as a project manager with Bord Bia (The Irish Food Board).

Pamela hold a Masters in Executive Coaching and an Advanced Diploma in Organisational Supervision from Ashridge Business School in the UK as well as a Masters in International Marketing and a BA in Business.

Pamela is accredited by the EMCC (Senior Practitioner Level) as a coach and as a coach supervisor.

Eileen is a qualified Executive and Leadership Coach with passion for working with Leaders and their teams to enhance their leadership capabilities, and assist them in building high performing teams.  

With a psychology background and 20 + years of experience working in the Financial Services, thereafter establishing and running a successful Property Company, she brings a style of originality, professionalism and curiosity to her Coaching.  

More recently along with a colleague she established ‘Resonate Leadership’ a boutique leadership development and executive coaching practice.

Anna Rowan is an executive coach and facilitator with over 15 years’ experience.  Anna works with middle to senior management from all sectors and is described by clients as supportive, direct, clear, empowering and challenging.

Anna has always had a keen interest in psychology. She began in career as a social care worker before joining Aer Lingus in 1989. She left Aer Lingus in 2002 with 13 years’ experience of cabin crew and leadership development training.

Today, Anna runs her own company that provides coaching and facilitation to organisations in Ireland and the UK including Accenture, UCD, Aircraft Leasing and SMEs.

Brendan is an executive coach and trainer who is passionate about all forms of learning.

His distinctiveness as a coach is centered on his ability to rapidly build trust; to understand and then articulate the issues and the options for success. Brendan is known for his support, his positive and challenging approach, and his ability to help people through personal and professional  transitions. He builds self-awareness in his clients, and this awareness leads to natural and lasting change. 

Prior to coaching, Brendan worked for 17 years in the voluntary sector. He managed homeless projects including emergency hostels, as well as a variety of high-support housing projects. There, he continually focused on creating learning opportunities which helped people break the cycle of homelessness.

Brendan now runs his own company; providing coaching and training solutions to a wide variety of groups. He has worked in the voluntary, public and private sectors.

Glenn Treacy works as a leadership and executive coach across a broad spectrum of organisations. For almost 20 years, he worked in research and development in the asset management industry before training as a somatic psychotherapist with the Institute of Biosynthesis in Switzerland. He trained in personality and developmental psychology with master coach Sandy Cotter in the UK and holds a Graduate Diploma in Executive Coaching at UCD Michael Smurfit School.  He is currently engaged in intensive Gestalt training with the Irish Gestalt Centre. 

In recent years he has chosen to focus on communication as the primary lever of our professional and personal lives. Working with the provocatively titled Nonviolent Communication paradigm of Marshall Rosenberg, Glenn has developed deep insights into the blockers and enablers to effective communication at all levels within the organisation.

His methodology is a hybrid of tried and tested techniques from some of the global experts in this field namely John Kinyon, Gina Lawrie, Martin Van Der Meulen and Sandy Cotter who operate at a deeper level to support meaningful change for the individual and the organisation. 

Glenn provides bespoke training, coaching and support in organisations and is one of the founders of a European network (INVCC) promoting communication training as a catalyst for organisational change and excellence. He has recently launched a programme called Pathways to Freedom in the Netherlands with a Dutch colleague which takes a novel approach to developing emotional intelligence. 

Colette is an experienced Coach who is passionate about working with individuals and teams to support meaningful and lasting change. 

Her approach is built on over 13 years’ experience coupled with psychological research. Prior to setting up her own company she spent over seven years in Microsoft working with teams so they could achieve both personal and organisational goals.

Colette works as a coach tutor on the Diploma in Executive Coaching in Smurfit School of Business. Colette is currently on several coaching panels in public and private sectors.

She is passionate about transformational learning and is a qualified meditation and yoga teacher. Colette has recently completed Integral Facilitator training with Ten Directions. The training combines masterful facilitation with leading insights from the fields of developmental psychology and Zen awareness together in an Integral approach.

Colette actively ensures that her training and development services are of the highest standard. She undertakes continual professional development and is in coaching supervision.
