Having completed my MSc. in Business, Leadership and Management Practice I have gained significant benefits from my 3 years of study. It has allowed me to bring my organisations on a journey of change and innovation. It has been a deeply reflective and transformative journey. 

The course has allowed me to build exceptional levels of strategic, high-performance and self- aware leadership skills. I feel it truly meets the challenges C-Suite Executives face in today’s business world. The role of an Executive Search Partner is a complex craft. Success will only manifest through the accountability of high performing teams. 

The course truly allowed me to cultivate my leadership style to get the best out of our people and drive powerful results throughout my organisations. Throughout the programme I learned how to create a high achieving culture which not just provides long term growth but also allows me to create future generations of great leaders.

I picked the Diploma in Advanced Management Performance as my first sortie into the MSc Business Pathway; I felt that the content was extremely relevant to my role and it offered me an introduction to tools and frameworks that would enhance my effectiveness as a manager. This proved to be the case.

The applicability of learnings to my core duties was key and I particularly liked how I gained the tools to link Organisation Culture with Performance in such focussed and insightful ways. I also found the Fit for Purpose module very informative and a key takeaway was how I could utilise a Business/Mission Model Canvas in such innovative applications; in particular its utilisation as a New Idea Template and in the ability of the framework to provide a shared language across the various Departments in our Directorate and Hospital.

Overall the Diploma in Advanced Management Performance was very rewarding, both intellectually and personally; it provided me with many insights across several core management fundamentals. Insights that now allow me to perform more effectively and efficiently. The class dynamics were very positive and contributed greatly to the overall learning process, my class colleagues providing many unique and varied points of view that enriched the learning experience.

The Diploma in Advanced Management Performance helped me take the next step in senior management by broadening my knowledge of key functions within the business. The new skills and knowledge learned at each module have had an immediate impact on my work performance and has allowed me to take on new challenges to help grow the business. The diploma also allowed me to meet and establish some great professional relationships. Overall, the programme has established a great foundation for me to continuously develop both my career and personal skills.

For me the magic moment was the module covering “Personal Impact and Presence”, this module has been a complete eye opener for me in terms of understanding myself and my purpose not only in the context of work but also in life. The challenge of creating your “Purpose Statement” and the clarity with which it provides you is a fantastic life tool. I now have a clear understanding of my drivers and use this new understanding to test and validate major decisions in my career and life.

The learnings from all the modules in AMP have been critical for me in implementing my strategy with my cell analysis division and have helped me to drive substantial business growth over the past eighteen months.

As a manager in the public sector, I was apprehensive as to how the diploma would relate to me given the perceived differences between the public and private sectors. Once in the classroom, these differences vanished as the faculty team encouraged interactive sessions, class discussions and debate which created an environment where it didn’t matter if you were public or private, tech or health, a fellow participant had an idea or experience which you could learn from.

What were your 3 key takeaways?

It’s hard to pick just three takeaways as the content is all fantastic, I have created a little cheat sheet to keep the items learned in the forefront of my mind. It’s refreshing how often they reappear in the management process and I find myself using the content learned frequently.

What was your "magic moment" on the programme?

Probably after the results of the first assignment, having an engineering background I was unsure of how I would transition my thought process to business. After getting a few course weekends and assignment complete I felt the pathway to the MSc is certainly achievable and also enjoyable, so this was the magic moment where I could see the end goal.

Was there any particular module that stood out and why?

The Leading Strategic Growth module focusing on value discipline is something I use weekly, the Marketing Strategy Analysis is also something that changed my outlook on viewing organisations and the Personal Impact & Presence was a holistic view on balancing life and work. Each module tended to have a key learning for me but those three gave me a base of understanding to build on. 

Were you able to embed the learnings into your own career / workplace?

The learning over the module weekends gave me the building blocks to start applying the tools and techniques acquired to my organisation. It was empowering to get this deep understanding of the topics and to almost instantly apply them to improve performance. Seeing the results substantiated this learning and was great to see.
