Faculty Lead - Prof. Joe Peppard
Professor Joe Peppard is Academic Director at UCD Smurfit Executive Development. Previously, he was a faculty member at MIT Sloan School of Management, ESMT Berlin, and at Cranfield School of Management, UK. A leading authority on digital transformation, his research studies contemporary issues and challenges that managers face in an environment of accelerating technological change. While academically rigorous, with his research he seeks to steer a pragmatic path. He recognises that managers want frameworks and models to help them understand their own predicaments, insights to figure out options and consequences, and clear actionable advice and guidance. In his writings and teaching, Professor Peppard seeks to help the busy manager to be successful. Last year, The Wall Street Journal cited his research on digital transformation as one of “10 tech events that will shape the future.”
Industry Guest - Patrick Ward
Patrick began his career at Nortel and has held various leadership roles in the UK, Canada and Ireland. During his 12 years at Microsoft, he originally managed the P & L for the Windows Business for Ireland, launching Windows 8, Windows 10 and Surface in the Irish Market. As Internet of Things (IOT) Partner Director for Microsoft EMEA, Patrick pioneered a Business Model consulting approach to IoT sales, which was adopted by Microsoft worldwide. Training and mentoring teams globally, Patrick led consulting engagements with Bosch, Siemens, ABB and many other organisations large and small. Patrick established his consultancy Aitheria Partners which consults globally on AI and Data Analytics adoption. Using a technical understanding with commercial acumen approach. He serves as a Director of Partner Development (Europe) with Edge AI Foundation. He is a Commercialisation Fund Evaluator for Enterprise Ireland assessing research institutions and startups seeking to bring innovations to market and drive commercial success at scale.
